The Mississippi Department of Education, Office of Child Nutrition strives to keep organizations that participate in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs (NSLP and SBP), as well as the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), Special Milk Program, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) up-to-date with the latest information from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service, as well as updates from our office.


Additional Updates to MRS Recipes

The number of portions were updated for the following recipes:

  • Glazed BBQ Meatballs on a Hoagie Bun (MRS 722)
  • Rolls (1 oz. eq.) (Purchased) (MRS 1356)
  • Southern Mud (MRS 1416), also the amount of vanilla was updated
  • Tangerines (MRS 1298) , the total quantity was updated

The following recipes had instructional steps that were updated:

  • Cheesy Garlic French Bread Pizza with Marinara Sauce (MRS 316)
  • Spanish Rice (MRS 1343)
  • Spanish Rice – USDA Foods (MRS 1343.1)
  • Rolls (Made) (Enriched) (MRS 1352)

The measure was updated for the following recipes:

  • Chicken Tetrazzini (WGR) – Briggs (MRS 550)
  • Mexican Cornbread (MRS 1307)

Ingredients and nutrition information were updated for the following recipes:

  • Chicken a la King over Rice (MRS 518)
  • Spaghetti and Meat Sauce (WGR) with BC (MRS 178.2) was changed from enriched to whole grain rich and the amount of beef crumbles were updated.
  • Taco Pie (MRS 184)
  • Taco Pie – USDA Foods (MRS 184.1)
  • Tuna Salad (MRS 630)
  • Yogurt Parfait – Briggs (MRS 1691)
  • Yogurt Parfait – Crumbly (MRS 1691)

The Critical Control Points (CCP) were updated for the following recipes:

  • Chicken Nuggets (Baked) (MRS 532)
  • Chicken Nuggets (Fried) (MRS 534)
  • Blueberries with Whipped Topping (MRS 1221)

Crediting was updated for the following recipes:

  • Sausage and Biscuit (1 oz) (WGR) (MRS 1687)
  • Sausage and Biscuit (2 oz) ENR (MRS 1689)
  • Scrambled Eggs (MRS 1661)
